Insulation in park homes: what BS 3632:2023 means for comfort — and how Stately goes further
Good insulation is one of those things you notice most when it’s done well — rooms feel naturally cosier, temperatures stay more even, and your home simply feels more comfortable to live in, whatever the season.
That’s why insulation is a key part of BS 3632:2023, the latest British Standard for residential park homes. It was published in 2023, with a mandatory industry changeover by September 2024 — when the previous BS 3632:2015 standard was withdrawn — helping ensure new homes are designed with modern expectations for year-round living in mind.
BS 3632, explained simply
BS 3632 sets out what a residential park home should achieve for permanent living — including construction standards, safety, and how well the home resists heat loss through the roof, walls and floor.
To make this measurable, the standard uses U-values. A U-value is just a number that describes how easily heat can pass through a surface. Lower is better, because it means less warmth escapes.
What are the BS 3632:2023 insulation requirements?
BS 3632:2023 sets maximum U-values for the main parts of the home’s external envelope (excluding doors and windows). In other words, the U-values should be no greater than:
- Floors: 0.26
- Walls: 0.30
- Roofs: 0.20
Our current U-values
At Stately Park Homes, we build our park homes and lodges to BS 3632 — and we’re always improving the comfort we can offer. Our current U-values are:
- Floors: 0.26
- Walls: 0.29
- Roofs (flat ceilings): 0.18
- Roofs (vaulted ceilings): 0.20
Before and after: our insulation upgrade
Our insulation performance has been upgraded in key areas. Here’s a simple ‘before and after’ view (remember: lower is better):
- Floors: 0.31 → 0.26
- Walls: 0.33 → 0.29
- Roofs (flat ceilings): 0.18 → 0.18 (already performing strongly)
- Roofs (vaulted ceilings): 0.20 → 0.20 (already aligned to the latest standard)
In short: we’ve tightened up the parts of the home that make a real difference to everyday comfort, while maintaining our strong roof performance.
Where we go beyond the BS 3632:2023 baseline
Because lower numbers mean better insulation, the standout areas are where we go below the standard’s maximum limits:
- Walls: our wall U-value of 0.29 is better than the BS 3632:2023 limit of 0.30.
- Roofs (flat ceilings): our flat-ceiling roof U-value of 0.18 is better than the BS 3632:2023 limit of 0.20.
And in the remaining categories, our designs are built to meet the latest BS 3632:2023 thresholds with confidence:
- Floors: 0.26
- Roofs (vaulted ceilings): 0.20
What better insulation means for you
Insulation isn’t just a specification — it affects how your home feels every day. Strong thermal performance can help support:
- Warmer rooms in winter, so heat is retained more effectively
- A steadier indoor temperature throughout the year
- Potentially lower energy bills, helping you get more warmth from the energy you use
In short: better insulation helps create a home that feels more comfortable, more liveable, and more enjoyable all year round — exactly what a residential park home should be.
